Your Body Was Made To Move
Introduction
How much have you moved today?
You woke up, picked up your phone…sat down to eat, got into a car or bus, sat at work or school for hours, came back home and sat again.
Then you wonder: “Why is my body aching? I didn't even do anything!”
That's exactly the point.
You don't have to do something strenuous for your body to need movement.
The Problem
Your body was made to move.
Walking, bending, stretching, reaching, turning and even changing positions are all part of everyday movement. But our everyday lives have made it very easy to stay still for long periods.
We sit to work. We sit to study. We sit in traffic. We sit to watch TV. We sit while scrolling.
At this point, some of us deserve an award for how creatively we can remain seated.
Understand that sitting is not bad. Resting is not bad either. The problem is staying in one position for too long without giving your body a chance to move.
Perhaps you are saying “But I exercise!”
Yes, exercise is important. But one hour of exercise does not mean your body does not need movement for the rest of the day.
What Can You Do?
You don't need to turn every part of your day into a workout.
Start small. Get up from your desk. Walk around. Change your position. Take the stairs when appropriate. Stretch after staying in one position for a while. Walk to get something instead of always asking someone to bring it.
Movement doesn't always have to look like exercise. Sometimes, movement is simply moving.
Challenge for the day:
Find one opportunity to move a little more.
Nothing dramatic. Just move.
Your body will thank you.
